2,4-O-Benzylidene-D-glucitol
2,4-O-Benzylidene-D-glucitol is a carbohydrate that can be obtained from the hydrolysis of cellulose. It has been found to have tetraacetate, trioxide, and anomeric forms. 2,4-O-Benzylidene-D-glucitol is a dimer that consists of two acetal groups. The most common oxidation products are the acetates and formates. When lead tetraacetate is used as the catalyst in this reaction, it produces low yields because of the instability of these products. 2,4-O-Benzylidene-D-glucitol can be converted into an acetal group by lactonization or introducing an acetal group onto a molecule through chemical reactions.
