3,4-Cyclohexenoesculetin b-D-galactopyranoside is a substrate for creatine kinase and can be used to measure the activity of this enzyme in vivo. It has been shown to be hydrolyzed by esterases and it is able to regenerate phosphoenolpyruvate from pyruvate. This product has also been shown to reduce the extent of mitochondrial damage and increase ATP production following ischemia/reperfusion injury in liver cells. 3,4-Cyclohexenoesculetin b-D-galactopyranoside provides protection against emphysema in tumor xenografts, as well as attenuating lung inflammation and fibrosis caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
