Galamustine is a galactose mustard compound, an alkylating agent, with antineoplastic activity.

Galamustine is a slow-release, viscoelastic formulation of a cytotoxic anticancer drug. It is a microsphere formulation that contains fatty acids and organic acid-soluble polylactic acid. This formulation releases the drug in the stomach and intestine where it binds to lipids and slowly enters the bloodstream. The drug has been shown to inhibit tumor growth by binding to the enzyme inhibitors at the active site of an enzyme that regulates cell division. Galamustine has also been shown to have anti-cancer activity in animal models through inhibition of protein synthesis and induction of apoptosis in cancer cells.
